The "Coach" revival takes place 18 years after the last season of the original comedy. According to the show's logline, "Coach Hayden Fox, in the present day, has retired from coaching. He is called back to become assistant coach to his own grown son, who is the new head coach at an Ivy league school in Pennsylvania that is just starting up a new team."
Barry Kemp, who created the original series, will return to write the sequel series and serve as executive producer along with Nelson. Additional cast members and premiere date for the NBC revival have not been announced yet.
On the original series, Shelley Fabares played Nelson's wife Christine, Jerry Van Dyke starred as Fox's bumbling assistant Luther, and Bill Fagerbakke portrayed fellow assistant coach Dauber.
